Meet the consortium: Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)

The Department of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) develops design engineering and design research expertise. We contribute in the field as scholars, engaging in design and technology development. From its early days the department has used a truly multi-disciplinary approach in education and research. The main contributing disciplines have been design, engineering, and social sciences.

Design of Empowering Systems cluster develops methods for designing interactive systems that bridge existing divides in society hindering inclusion and self-development as well as divides brought about by emerging technologies. The cluster pays special attention to how these methods need to change across application areas, scales, and technologies. The project team is lead by Regina Bernhaupt.

TU/e, Department of Industrial Design with the research cluster DOES is involved in the design and development of a user interface that will be key to the COROB platform, enabling technical and non-technical operators alike to operate collaborative robots.

Our main contribution to the project is the application of a user and user experience focused design process that will help to understand the needs of the different user groups, come up with design related knowledge on how to develop user interfaces that can be inclusive, accessible and adapted to non-technical operators.

With the project two Engineering Doctorate Candidates will be employed, allowing us to train specific Engineering oriented Designers that can help to shape the next generation of user interaction design for human-robot interaction. We also aim to expand and consolidate our knowledge and validate basic conceptual frameworks on the future of human-robot interaction that empower non-technical operators.
